St. Lucas Celebrates Official Completion of Building Expansion

On Sunday, September 21, the St. Lucas family celebrated a monumental moment in it's rich history—completion of a 5-year, $1.5 million building expansion project that has transformed the ministry of the church. The special Worship Service included a ceremonial mortgage burning, marking the official completion of the historic campaign.

The project begun in 2003 with a year-long fund-raising campaign, with donors making 3-year financial pledges. Construction began later that year and continued into 2004. In July 2004, St. Lucas completed phase 1 of the expansion project, a large addition to the east side of the church which included a great hall, kitchen, narthex reception area, elevator, six new classrooms, several new offices, and new restrooms. Phase 2, completed in October 2004 included deconstructing the sanctuary, changing the orientation 90 degrees, and rebuilding. This phase also created an expanded library and teller office, and added a sound booth.

Phase 3 of the St. Lucas "Building on Faith" Expansion Project was completed in October 2006, marking the end of an historic campaign that has transformed the ministry of St. Lucas. The final phase included adding 16 feet to the south side of the sanctuary. The addition completed re-construction of a symmetrical colonial church design while providing an expanded band area and pastor's office and adding much needed seating to the sanctuary. The addition also added three new classrooms to the lower level of the church. The lower level of the original church was remodeled and transformed into the new Jr/Sr High Youth Activity Center. The space is also used as overflow space for the growing Awana ministry.

The completion of this expansion would not have been possible without God's love and guidance as he moved the people of St. Lucas to expand their horizons as they trusted in Him. A special thank you to all of the members of St. Lucas who gave countless hours to this project.
